In order to participate in Green Knight Academy combat activities, each student has certain equipment that he or she must bring every time, if they wish to be able to fight. All students must bring... a long-sleeved T-shirt (preferably a green GKA shirt) long pants gloves, preferably leather and that covers the wrist, such as leather riding gloves or work gloves footwear that covers and supports the ankle, preferably with traction-tread, such as work or hiking boots. No sandals or low athletic shoes. knee and elbow pads. Boffer combat students should preferably use ones hard plastic or metal coverings, such as "skater" style pads; heavy combat students (16+ years old) may wear softer pads. male fighters must wear an athletic cup in a supporter Green Knight Academy maintains some loaner armor for heavy combat, but students are encouraged to buy or make their own. See Sir Bjorn or Sir Gerstan regarding what to look for. In addition to the above, Heavy Combat students must wear all required armor during combat; no exceptions. GKA uses the armor standards of the West Kingdom of the Society for Creative Anachronism. Detailed documentation of these standards can be found at: in the section on heavy combat armor construction standards. Students sixteen or older who wish to advance to the rank of Companion should have a working knowledge of these armor standards in addition to the above Equipment Requirements. In addition to the above, Heavy Combat students must have the following areas armored with rigid material (i.e. 16 guage steel, hardened leather, certain plastics, etc.) during combat: head (steel helmet only) neck, including throat and cervical vertebrae hands and wrists knees and elbows kidneys (female heavy combat students must also have rigid protection protecting the pectoral area) All armor and equipment used at GKA is subject to review and/or approval by staff at any time; staff decisions are final.
