What is GREEN KNIGHT ACADEMY?
GREEN KNIGHT ACADEMY (GKA) is a martial arts school in Chico, California that teaches the style of combat
practiced by armored knights of medieval Europe.  Adults and kids ages ten and up learn to fight with replica
swords, shields, and pole-arms, built with safety in mind, that emulate the equipment used by infantry of the
battlefields and tournament lists from the fall of Rome until the age of gunpowder.  Training is led by
Sir Bjorn, a
veteran of medieval re-enactment and research for nearly twenty years.

In addition to the fighting style itself, however, students also learn elements of history from the time period, the
virtues of behavior that those who invented and practiced the art respected, and the
people who lived those
virtues every day.  These qualities of character, sometimes called the "knightly virtues," were an essential part of
the education of young nobles in the medieval period, and thus we at GKA take them just as seriously.

Students train for general fitness, develop their skills in a martial art, bond in friendship with their fellow
students, and have fun while they're doing it all.  We study one-on-one combat, melee (or every fighter for him- or
her-self) combat, as well as team-versus-team skirmish scenarios, such as Open Field, Gate Fighting, and Bridge
Battles.

news page for current events and happenings at the school, and check out the Green Knight Glossary
