| Youth Intermediate: Students ages 10-15 practice in a group setting; stretching, pell-work practice, boffer combat in one-on-one and group scenarios, including Bridge, Gate, circle melee, and the infamous "Troll Battle." Intro to Sword Basics: This is our ongoing class for beginners ages 10-18 in our martial art; class time focuses on safety training, tournament culture, and proper sword and shield technique. Shop Night: Laboratory-style construction/workshop class where students learn medieval handcrafts. GKA staffers teach a particular topic (such as chainmail, steel armoring, or shield construction) or students may work on their own individual projects. Tournament of the Grail: GKA hosts a monthly competition on the first Wednesday of each month to give our students repeated exposure to the tournament environment. Students must have achieved at least the rank of Companion in order to compete. There are two divisions at present, one for boffer combat, and one for heavy. Friends and family are encouraged to attend. Heavy & Transitional Fighter Practice: Students ages 14 and up practice their skills in full heavy armor in a clinic/laboratory setting. Focus is on individual and one-on-one tournament skills, i.e. offense and defense, stance, effective tactics, and chivalric tournament culture. |
